Her Journey as an Author and Illustrator
In 1999, Bea Uusma wrote and illustrated a children's book. It was about the American astronaut Michael Collins. The book was called The Man Who Went to the Far Side of the Moon. It told the story of Michael Collins from the Apollo 11 mission.
The Arctic Expedition Book
In the mid-1990s, Bea became very interested in a real-life mystery. This was the S. A. Andrée's Arctic Balloon Expedition of 1897. She wanted to find out what happened to the explorers on that trip. Her deep research led to her famous book, The Expedition.
The book The Expedition was published in English in 2014. It won a very important award in Sweden, called The August Prize, in 2013. This award is given to the best books published in Sweden.
Bea Uusma's Medical Career
After working as an illustrator for several years, Bea Uusma decided to study medicine. She became a medical doctor. Today, she works as a doctor in Stockholm. She has said that her medical knowledge helped her a lot when she was researching The Expedition. It helped her understand what might have happened to the explorers.
Family Life
Bea Uusma was married to Swedish comedian Henrik Schyffert from 1996 to 2012. They have two children together. Bea is also the sister of the well-known Swedish actress Martina Haag.
