Bear Valley is a small, unincorporated community located in the town of Ithaca. It is part of Richland County, Wisconsin, in the United States. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government. Instead, it is governed by the larger county or town it's located within.

Bear Valley has an interesting past. It was first planned as a village around 1855.
How Bear Valley Was Founded
A man named Peter W. Haskins, who came from New York, started laying out lots for a new village. He called his planned community Petersburg.
The Naming of Bear Valley
Later, the name of the village was changed to Bear Valley. This name came from two natural features nearby. There's a stream called Bear Creek and a long valley, about nineteen miles long, that also shares the name.
Early Services in the Community
As the community grew, a post office was opened in Bear Valley in 1858. This was an important step for the residents. It meant they could send and receive mail more easily.
