Beas de Segura is a town in the province of Jaén, Spain. It is part of the Andalusia region. In 2018, about 5,191 people lived there.
The town covers an area of about 155 square kilometers. A large part of Beas de Segura is inside the Natural Park of the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas. This makes it a beautiful place where the countryside meets the mountains.

Beas de Segura is the biggest town in its area. It is an important center for the nearby towns.
What is the Economy?
Most of the land in Beas de Segura is used for farming. Farmers mainly grow olive trees. Because of this, the town is part of a special group for olive tree municipalities.
The town makes excellent olive oil. This oil is so good that it has a special "denomination of origin." This means its oil is known for being from this specific mountain area.
Besides olive oil, people also raise animals. Tourism is also very important. Many visitors come to see the natural beauty, historical sites, and rural areas. These activities are the main ways people earn a living here.
How Old is Beas de Segura?
The first signs of people living here are from a very long time ago. This was during the Lower Paleolithic period. Early humans lived by the Guadalimar River. They used tools made from stone.
Some of these ancient tools are on display today. You can see them at the Museum of Natural Sciences in Madrid. They are also at the Jaén Museum. These tools are some of the oldest found in Andalusia.
Roman History
The Roman Empire also left its mark here. The Mocho Bridge over the Guadalimar River is almost 2,000 years old. It was built during the Roman times.
Important Buildings
The Convent of Carmelitas de Beas is a very old and important building. It was the first convent founded by Santa Teresa de Jesús in what is now Andalusia. She founded it before traveling to Seville.
This convent was recognized as an important cultural site in 1979. Later, in 1983, it was added to the list of Andalusian Historical Heritage.
What are the Local Festivals?
Every year, from April 22nd to 25th, Beas de Segura celebrates the San Marcos festival. This festival has been celebrated for centuries.
A main part of the festival is the "bull ensogao." This means a bull is guided through the streets with a rope. This festival is very well-known both in Spain and around the world. It was declared a "National Tourist Interest Festival of Andalusia" in 2008.
