Her Journey to Becoming a Mathematician

Beatrice Riviere studied engineering in Paris, France, in 1995. After that, she came to the United States for more schooling.

She earned a master's degree from the Pennsylvania State University in 1996. Then, she went to the University of Texas at Austin. There, she earned her Ph.D. in 2000. Her big research project was about how different liquids mix when they flow through porous materials.

Before joining Rice University in 2008, she taught math at the University of Pittsburgh. She was even in charge of the math department there from 2015 to 2018.

In 2018, she was chosen to lead a special group. This group is part of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). They focus on math related to Earth sciences.
