Beatriz Argimón Cedeira (born August 14, 1961) is a politician and notary from Uruguay. She is a member of the National Party. She made history by becoming the first woman ever elected as the Vice President of Uruguay, a position she held from 2020 to 2025.
A notary is a type of lawyer who deals with official documents. After graduating from the University of the Republic in 1989, she also studied human rights and laws related to families and children.
Argimón has been a strong voice for women's rights. She helped start groups like the "Network of Political Women" and the "Bicameral Female Caucus." This caucus is a group of women from both parts of Uruguay's main law-making body, the General Assembly.

Growing Up and School
Beatriz Argimón was born in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, on August 14, 1961. Her family was very involved in politics. Her father, Juan Carlos Argimón, worked for the government and was part of the National Party. Her mother, María Esther Cedeira, was a housewife.
She grew up in a Catholic family and has one sister named Estela. She went to primary school in Montevideo and later attended the José Pedro Varela National School for high school.
During her high school years, Uruguay was under a civic-military dictatorship, a time when the military controlled the government. Her father lost his job but got it back after the dictatorship ended.
In 1989, Argimón graduated from the University of the Republic as a notary. While studying, she also worked for the state water company.
Work on TV and in the Community
Besides politics, Argimón has also worked on television. From 2008 to 2011, she was a panelist on a TV show called Esta boca es mía. She also co-hosted a show called Diseñarte, which promoted products made in Uruguay.
In 2007, she took part in a play called Los monólogos de la ... to raise money and awareness to stop violence against women.
She is also a founding member of the Álvarez Caldeyro Barcia Foundation, an organization that helps premature babies.
Career in Politics

Beatriz Argimón started her political journey when she was just 17. After college, she ran for a local government position in Montevideo.
From 2000 to 2010, she served as a National Representative for Montevideo. This means she was elected to help make laws for the country. She was the first woman in her party's history to be reelected to this role one term after another.
Over the years, she supported different leaders within her party. In 2014, she began working with Luis Lacalle Pou, who would later become president.
On April 16, 2018, she became the President of the National Party. She was the first woman to lead the party in its 182-year history. She held this job until she became Vice President of Uruguay in March 2020.
Becoming Vice President
In the 2019 elections, Luis Lacalle Pou was the National Party's candidate for president. He chose Beatriz Argimón to be his running mate for vice president.
They won the election, and on March 1, 2020, Argimón took office. She became the first woman in Uruguay's history to be elected as vice president. In her first speech after the election, she promised to continue her work fighting for equal rights for women. She served as vice president for a full five-year term, which ended on March 1, 2025.
Life Outside Politics
Beatriz Argimón married Jorge Fernández Reyes on December 14, 2009. She has two children from earlier marriages, a daughter named María Belén and a son named Juan Santiago.
