Beatriz Luisa Ávila was born on October 5, 1966. She is an Argentine journalist and politician. Currently, she serves as a National Senator for Tucumán Province. This means she helps make laws for the entire country from her home province. Before this, Ávila was a member of the Legislature of Tucumán from 2003 to 2017. She also served as a National Deputy from 2017 to 2021.
Early Life and Education
Beatriz Ávila was born in San Miguel de Tucumán, a city in Argentina. She studied social communication, which is about how people share information and news. In 1989, she became a journalist. From 1992 to 2003, she worked at a newspaper in Tucumán called La Gaceta. Beatriz Ávila is married to Germán Alfaro, who is the mayor of San Miguel de Tucumán. He also started the Party for Social Justice, which is the political party Beatriz Ávila belongs to.
Political Career
Beatriz Ávila started her political journey by running for a seat in the Argentine Chamber of Deputies in 2017. This Chamber is like a big group of representatives who help make laws for Argentina. She was part of a political group called Cambiemos. She won enough votes to become a National Deputy and started her work on December 10, 2017.
As a National Deputy, Ávila worked on several important groups called parliamentary commissions. These groups focus on different topics to help create better laws. She was part of commissions that dealt with:
- Freedom of Expression (making sure people can speak freely)
- Municipal Affairs (things related to cities and towns)
- Social Action and Public Health (helping people and improving health)
- Co-operative Affairs and NGOs (working with groups that help communities)
Becoming a National Senator
In 2021, Beatriz Ávila and her husband, Germán Alfaro, ran for seats in the Argentine Senate. The Senate is another important group that helps make laws for the country. They were candidates for the Juntos por el Cambio (JxC) political group in Tucumán.
Their group received the second-highest number of votes in the province. Because of how the Senate voting system works, this meant Germán Alfaro would get a seat. However, after the election, Germán Alfaro decided not to take his seat. This meant that the seat went to the next person on their list, which was Beatriz Ávila. So, she became a National Senator for Tucumán Province.
