Beaufort was a railway station located in Roseland, New Jersey. It was an important stop on the Morristown and Erie Railway line. Today, the old station building is no longer used for trains. It now houses the Orange-Alden Fuel Company. You can find it at 10 Eisenhower Parkway, close to the border of Livingston.
Station History
The Beaufort station first opened in 1904. Before the station was built, people in the area used "flag stops." This meant trains would only stop if someone waved a flag to get on or off. Residents wanted more regular train service.
So, the community built a simple wooden shed to serve as a station. Over time, the Morristown and Erie Railway company built the station building you can still see today. Trains carried passengers to and from Beaufort for many years. However, passenger train service on this line stopped on April 29, 1928.
