Beaver Brook Reservation is a cool public park in Massachusetts. It covers about 303 acres, which is like 230 football fields! This park is located right between the town of Belmont and the city of Waltham. It's a great place to explore nature and learn about history. The park is managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.

History of Beaver Brook Reservation

Beaver Brook Reservation was created a long time ago, in 1893. It was the very first park set up by the Metropolitan Park Commission. This group helped create parks around Boston.

Why Was the Park Created?

The main reason for starting this park was to protect some really old and special white oak trees. These trees were called the Waverly Oaks. A famous landscape architect named Charles Eliot worked hard to save them from being cut down. Sadly, the last of these ancient trees died in the 1920s because they were so old.

Other Historical Spots

A part of the park used to belong to another landscape architect named Robert Morris Copeland. His old house from the 1800s is still inside the park today. You can also find a monument dedicated to the Waverly Oaks. There are also remains of an old mill from the 1800s.
