Bebhionn (moon) facts for kids
Bebhionn, also known as Saturn XXXVII, is one of the many moons orbiting the giant planet Saturn. It was first spotted by a team of astronomers led by Scott S. Sheppard. They announced its discovery on May 4, 2005. The observations that led to its finding were made between December 2004 and March 2005.
About Bebhionn
Bebhionn is a small moon, only about 6 kilometers (about 3.7 miles) wide. It travels around Saturn at an average distance of 16,898,000 kilometers (about 10.5 million miles). One full trip around Saturn takes Bebhionn about 820 days, which is a little over two years!
Bebhionn's Orbit
Bebhionn's path around Saturn is not a perfect circle. It's a bit stretched out, which scientists call an eccentric orbit. Its orbit is also tilted quite a bit compared to Saturn's equator. This tilt is about 18 degrees.
How Bebhionn Got Its Name
This moon was officially named in April 2007. It was named after Bébinn, a beautiful goddess from ancient Irish mythology. She was known as a goddess of birth.
