History of Bee Cave
Bee Cave got its name from early settlers. They found a large cave in the area filled with wild bees. A post office opened there in 1870, using the name Bee Caves.
The city officially became a city in 1987. In April 2023, Bee Cave was named an International Dark-Sky Community. This means the city works to reduce light pollution. It helps people see the stars better at night. Bee Cave is the seventh city in Texas and the 39th in the world to get this special title.
Geography and Climate
Bee Cave is located about 12 miles west of Austin. In 2010, the city covered about 2.6 square miles (6.7 square kilometers) of land. Before 2010, Bee Cave grew from a village to a city. Its area increased to about 6.8 square miles (17.6 square kilometers). The city borders Lakeway to the northwest.
The land in Bee Cave is mostly hilly. The elevation ranges from about 875 to 1025 feet (267 to 312 meters) above sea level.

Bee Cave has a humid, subtropical climate. This type of climate is called Cfa in the Köppen climate classification system. Generally, the city has long, hot summers. Its winters are usually short and cool.

Economy
American Campus Communities has its main office in Bee Cave. It is located in the Hill Country Galleria shopping area. The company moved its offices there in December 2010.
Education
The schools in Bee Cave are part of the Lake Travis Independent School District. Several elementary schools serve the children in Bee Cave. These include Bee Cave Elementary School, Lake Pointe Elementary School, and Lakeway Elementary School.
For middle school, most students go to Lake Travis Middle School or Bee Cave Middle School. A smaller part of the city is served by Hudson Bend Middle School. All high school students in Bee Cave attend Lake Travis High School.
Before 2019, Lake Travis Middle School served all of Bee Cave. Now, Bee Cave Middle School also helps educate the city's students.
