The Story of Lakeway

Lakeway started out as a large ranch. This ranch covered 2,700 acres and belonged to Jack Josey. In 1962, three businessmen from Houston had an idea. They wanted to buy the land and build a hotel and a fun resort community.

They named the new place "Lakeway" because it was near the lake. Construction on the hotel began in October 1962. The hotel officially opened on July 12, 1963. At the same time, a company was formed to develop more land. In June 1974, the people living there voted. They decided to make Lakeway an official city. This created the 1,200-acre village of Lakeway.
