Belén is a small village located in the northwestern part of Uruguay. It's found in the Salto Department. The name Belén also refers to the larger area, called a municipality, that this village is a part of.

Where is Belén Located?

Belén is situated right where the Arroyo Yacuy stream meets the Uruguay River. This location is northwest of a place called Arapey. It is also north of the city of Salto.

Belén's History: How it Started

Belén was first recognized as a "Pueblo," which means village, on January 12, 1860. It was officially re-established a couple of times after that. This happened on May 7, 1862, and then again on October 2, 1867. These re-establishments were made official through special laws.
