BelGioioso Cheese was started in 1979 by a man named Errico Auricchio. His family had been making cheese in Italy for a long time. Errico began his company in Denmark, Wisconsin. He made his very first cheese, provolone, in a rented cheese factory in Wrightstown, Wisconsin.
