The Belconnen Arts Centre is a cool place in Canberra where you can enjoy all kinds of art! It opened its doors in 2009. The government of the ACT owns it, and a group called Belconnen Arts Centre Incorporated helps run it. A small team of staff and many helpful volunteers make sure everything works smoothly.
About the Building
The Belconnen Arts Centre was designed by Williams Ross Architects. It was built by Project Coordination Australia P/L. You can find this amazing building right on the waterfront of Lake Ginninderra. It is located next to the main shopping area of Belconnen.
Recent Upgrades
In 2018, the Centre got even bigger and better! New dance studios, cafes, and meeting rooms were added. The area around the lake was also improved. The ACT government spent $15 million to make these upgrades happen. Work started in December 2018. The new parts of the Centre officially opened in August 2020. This new section includes a large theatre that can seat 400 people. It also has more space for art shows and offices for art groups.
Dance Classes for Everyone
The Belconnen Arts Centre is a special place for many groups. A non-profit group called Dance for Parkinson's Australia holds classes here. These classes are for people who have Parkinson's disease. The program first started in May 2013 in Sydney and Brisbane. It came to Canberra in July of the same year. This was made possible with help from Parkinson's ACT. The ACT Government and IMB Foundation also supported the program.
