Belleville is a small, unincorporated community located in Liberty Township, Hendricks County, Indiana. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town. Instead, it's managed as part of a larger area, in this case, Liberty Township.
History
Belleville was first planned and settled in 1829. It grew quickly because the National Road was built right through it. The National Road was one of the first major highways in the United States. It made travel and trade much easier across the country.
However, in the 1850s, the town started to shrink. This happened because a new railroad was built, but it missed Belleville by more than a mile. Railroads became very important for moving goods and people. If a town wasn't on the railroad line, it often lost business and people to towns that were.
Geography
Belleville is located in Indiana, between the towns of Plainfield and Stilesville. You can find it where two main roads meet: US 40 and SR 39. These roads help connect Belleville to other places in the state.
