History of Belmont Plantation

The main house at Belmont Plantation is a grand mansion. It was built in 1857 by a person named W.W. Worthington.

During the American Civil War, which lasted from 1861 to 1865, soldiers from the Union army visited the plantation in 1863.

Much later, in 1946, the governor of Mississippi, Dennis Murphree, turned the plantation into the Belmont Hunting Lodge. A governor is the elected leader of a state.

Today, Belmont Plantation is a busy place. It is used for weddings and other special events. It also serves as a fancy hunting lodge and a bed and breakfast. Guests can stay overnight and enjoy the historic setting.
