Benjamin David Gillies (born on 24 October 1979) is an Australian musician. He is most famous as the drummer for the Australian rock band Silverchair. He played with them from 1992 until they took a break in 2011.
In 2003, Ben started another band called Tambalane with Wes Carr. They released an album in 2005 and toured Australia. Later, in 2012, he formed a new band called Bento. In this band, he sings the main vocals. Bento released their first album, Diamond Days, that same year.

Music Journey
Early Life and Silverchair
Benjamin David Gillies was born in Merewether, New South Wales, a suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales. This happened on 24 October 1979. He started playing drums at a young age.
When he was 12, he formed a band called Innocent Criminals. His friends Daniel Johns, Chris Joannou, and Tobin Finnane were also in the band. They played at school and other places in Newcastle.
In 1994, they changed their name to Silverchair. Their first song, "Tomorrow", became very popular. It reached number one on the music charts in Australia.
Silverchair went on to release five albums that also reached number one. These albums were Frogstomp (1995), Freak Show (1997), Neon Ballroom (1999), Diorama (2002), and Young Modern (2007).
Other Music Projects
While Silverchair took a break, Ben Gillies formed the band Tambalane in 2002. They released an album with songs like "Little Miss Liar." After Tambalane, he returned to play with Silverchair.
In May 2011, Silverchair announced they were taking a long break. Ben then started working on his own music. He released new songs in 2020, called "Breathe In, Breathe Out" and "One Foot in Front of The Other."
In 2021, he released the song "Yesteryear." This song was part of his five-song album called The Relative Relatives.
Personal Life
Family and Television Appearances
In June 2010, Ben Gillies married Jakica 'Jackie' Ivancevic. His wife, Jackie Gillies, is known for being on the TV show The Real Housewives of Melbourne.
In October 2021, Ben and Jackie welcomed twin babies. They had their children after several rounds of IVF treatment.
In 2023, Ben and Jackie competed together on the seventh season of The Amazing Race Australia. This is a TV show where teams race around the world.
