Ben Tankard was born on January 10, 1964. His father was a minister, and his mother was a missionary. Ben started playing drums in church when he was very young. In school, he played the tuba. He was also a great basketball player and even earned a scholarship for it.

However, before the basketball season began, he hurt his knee. After going through a difficult time, he found inspiration at a church service. This led him to change his path and focus on music. He began playing keyboards and recorded his first album, Keynote Speaker, in 1990. He also started learning how to arrange music and produce records.

Working with Other Artists

Ben Tankard has worked with many well-known musicians. Some of these include Gerald Albright, Fred Hammond, and Take 6.

He also helped discover a talented third-grade teacher named Yolanda Adams. Ben signed her to his record label, Tribute. He produced several of her albums, like Through the Storm and More Than A Melody. They worked together on more than 40 songs. Ben believes that Yolanda's voice helped many people discover his unique music style and keyboard playing.
