Ben Volavola, born on January 13, 1991, is a talented rugby union player. He is a Fijian Australian who plays for the Fiji national team. Currently, he plays for Leicester Tigers in England.

Ben has played for many famous clubs around the world. These include Super Rugby teams like the Waratahs, Crusaders, and the Rebels. He also played for French clubs such as Agen, Bordeaux Bègles, Racing 92, and Perpignan. Ben usually plays as a fly-half or a full-back.

Ben's Early Life and Education

Ben Volavola was born in Sydney, Australia. His family has roots in both Fiji and India. His grandfather, Ratu Peni Volavola, was a mayor in Suva, Fiji. His grandmother, Vasiti Mea Naqova, was a netball player for Suva.

Ben lived in Fiji when he was very young. He went to Veiuto Primary School there, which is where he first learned to play rugby. In 2000, when he was nine, he moved back to Sydney with his mother, Ema Volavola, and his younger brother, Milan.

Schooling in Australia

In Australia, Ben attended several schools. He went to St George Christian School in 2004. From 2005 to 2008, he attended Endeavour Sports High School. Later, he studied at Newington College from 2009 to 2010.

After high school, Ben continued his education. In 2012, he earned certificates in fitness from the Australian Institute of Fitness. He also completed a Business Diploma from the Australian Vocational Training Academy.

Ben's Rugby Journey

Ben Volavola's rugby career began to shine when he played for Southern Districts. His strong performances helped him join the Waratahs team for the 2013 Super Rugby season. He also represented the Australian Under 20 team in 2011 at the 2011 IRB Junior World Championship in Italy.

Playing for the Crusaders

In 2016, Ben joined the Crusaders team. He was brought in to replace several key players who were moving to Europe. This move also made him eligible to play for the Fiji national team in the upcoming 2015 Rugby World Cup. He signed a two-year contract with the Crusaders.

Ben always looked up to former Fijian fly-half, Nicky Little. He hoped to take over the number 10 jersey, which is a very important position. His parents were very supportive of his choice to play for Fiji.

Representing Fiji

Ben made his debut for Fiji in 2015 against the Māori All Blacks. He came off the bench in that game. Later, he started as the fly-half for Fiji against Tonga in the 2015 World Rugby Pacific Nations Cup. In that game, he scored 15 points, helping his team.

He was chosen as one of the 31 players for Fiji's squad in the Rugby World Cup 2015. This big tournament was held in England and Wales. Ben played in all four of Fiji's matches. These included tough games against England, Australia, and Wales. Fiji also won a game against Uruguay.

In 2017, Ben signed with another Australian Super Rugby team, the Melbourne Rebels. He played for them for one season before moving on.

Rugby in Europe

In October 2017, Ben decided to play rugby in Europe. He joined the French Top 14 club Bordeaux Bègles. This was a big change after playing most of his career in Australia and New Zealand. He joined his Fijian teammate Peni Ravai there.

In June 2018, Ben moved to his second French club, Racing 92. He joined as a backup player for their injured star, Pat Lambie.

On May 10, 2020, Ben signed with Pro D2 team Perpignan for the 2020–21 season.

Most recently, on August 26, 2024, Ben Volavola signed with Leicester Tigers. This team plays in England's top rugby league, the Premiership Rugby.

Ben's Personal Life

Ben Volavola married Kristine Phipps on June 24, 2022, in Sydney, Australia. They welcomed their son in 2023.
