Bencion facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Bencion (in Catalan and Spanish, Benció) was an important leader in the early 900s. He was a count in two areas called Empúries and Rosselló. These places are in what is now Catalonia, a region in Spain. Bencion became count in 915 and ruled until he passed away in 916.

Bencion was the son of another count, Sunyer II of Empúries. When his father died, Bencion took over the role.

Bencion's Family and Rule

Bencion was married to a woman named Godlana. She was the daughter of Miro the Elder, who was a count in nearby regions called Conflent and Roussillon.

When Bencion's father, Sunyer II, died, Bencion didn't rule alone. He shared the leadership with his brother, Gausbert. They ruled the counties of Empúries and Rosselló together.

Bencion was the first of the two brothers to die. After his death in 916, his brother Gausbert took full control of all the lands and titles they had shared.
