Benji the Hunted is an exciting adventure film from 1987. It is the fourth movie in the popular Benji series. The film tells the story of Benji, a brave and clever dog. He gets lost in the wild and must learn to survive on his own.

Benji soon finds four tiny cougar cubs whose mother is no longer with them. He takes on the big job of protecting these little cubs. Benji tries to keep them safe from dangers in the forest. The movie was released by Walt Disney Pictures. This was the last Benji film to star the dog named Benjean. She was the daughter of the original Benji, Higgins.

Benji's Wild Adventure

This movie begins in Oregon. Benji is working on a film when he goes missing. His trainer, Frank Inn, was with Benji on a fishing boat. A big storm came, and the boat turned over. Frank fears Benji is lost forever. But the movie team plans to search the wild coast by helicopter.

Lost in the Wilderness

The next day, Benji is hiding near the shore. A helicopter flies overhead, but no one sees him. Benji walks through the woods. He then sees a mother cougar on a big rock. Soon, the cougar is gone. Benji tries to comfort her, but a hunter takes her away.

Benji then finds four small cougar cubs. They are alone and need help. Benji decides to protect them. He tries to keep them safe from other animals.

Finding Food and Shelter

Benji needs to find food for the cubs. He sees a rabbit but lets it go. Then, he finds a cabin with food cooking. The hunter takes a cooked bird inside. Benji sees two more birds hanging outside. He grabs one and takes it back to the cubs.

The next day, Benji collects rocks. He uses them to make the cubs' den higher. This helps keep the cubs from wandering off. Benji goes back to the cabin for the other bird. The hunter catches him and ties him up. The hunter sees Benji's collar. He knows there is a reward for finding Benji.

A wolf comes near Benji. The hunter scares the wolf away. Benji pulls on his rope. He wants to get free. The hunter unties Benji for a moment. Benji quickly grabs the other bird. He runs back to the cubs with it.

Moving to Safety

Benji sees another adult female cougar with her cub. He barks at her, but she attacks him. Benji knows the cubs need a safer place. He carries each cub one by one in his mouth. He moves them to a new den.

While moving the cubs, Benji sees his trainer. Frank Inn is in the helicopter flying overhead. But Benji still has to move the cubs. By the time he finishes, another animal has eaten the food. Benji goes to find more food. The wolf tries to get the cubs, but the helicopter scares him away.

Facing Dangers

The next day, Benji sees the cougar and the wolf nearby. The wolf chases Benji. Benji is very fast and gets away. Later, the four cubs follow Benji. A large bear appears. Benji and the cubs hide. One cub runs toward the bear, but Benji gets it back.

Benji barks and runs away from the bear. The bear chases him but soon stops. The wolf appears again and chases Benji. Benji leads the wolf to the bear. This helps him get rid of the wolf for a while.

A Hero's Choice

Later, the cougar drinks from a stream. One of the cubs goes near her. The helicopter flies over again. It scares the cougar and her cub away. Benji sees the cougar again. He barks at the cubs to follow him across the stream.

The helicopter lands nearby. Frank Inn gets out and calls for Benji. Benji looks at his master. Then he looks at the cubs playing. He decides he must help the cubs first. Frank gets back in the helicopter and flies away.

An eagle swoops down. It grabs one of the cubs. Benji barks loudly. He scares the eagle away from the other cubs.

Reuniting the Family

Benji sees the cougar and her cub again. He barks at her many times. She chases him. Benji leads her away. He almost falls into a deep canyon but climbs to safety. From the top, Benji sees the cubs below.

Benji finds the cougar near a waterfall. He runs to get the cubs. But the wolf is watching them. Benji barks at the wolf. He bites him. The cubs hide under a rock. Benji jumps on the wolf's back. Then he runs away. The wolf chases Benji. Benji tricks the wolf. The wolf falls off a cliff.

Benji then gets the cubs out from under the rock. He carries one cub up a steep mountain. He leaves it at the top. Then he goes back for the others. All three cubs are now on the mountaintop. The mother cougar appears. She sniffs the cubs and cuddles them. Her own cub runs to join them. The cougar lies down. The four cubs drink milk from their new mother.

Benji rests in the meadow. The helicopter comes closer. Benji has done his job.
