Bennington is a small community in Bear Lake County, Idaho, United States. It is known as a census-designated place, which means it's a specific area identified by the census bureau. In 2010, about 190 people lived there. Bennington is located in the southeastern part of Idaho. You can find it on U.S. Route 30. It's about 5 miles (8 km) north of Montpelier. It is also about 12 miles (19 km) south of Georgetown.
History of Bennington
Bennington is a small farming community. It was first settled by Mormon Pioneers in 1864. These pioneers were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They moved to this area to build new communities.
The town was named by Brigham Young. He was an important leader of the Mormon Pioneers. He named Bennington after a town in Vermont. This was the state where he was born and grew up. Many people living in Bennington today are direct descendants of these early settlers.
One of the people who helped found Bennington was Amos Wright. His grandson, David L. Wright, became a writer. The town's elevation is about 6,008 feet (1,831 meters) above sea level.

Bennington has always been a small community. In 1909, its population was estimated to be around 50 people. By 1960, the number of residents had grown to 100. The most recent census in 2010 counted 190 people living in Bennington.
