Bensonhurst Park facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Bensonhurst Park is a fun park located in the Bath Beach area of Brooklyn, New York City. It's a great place for kids and families to play and relax!

This park stretches from Cropsey Avenue in the north all the way to Lower New York Bay in the south. You can find a cool playground on the northeast side, a big field in the middle, and several basketball courts on the west side. There's also a bathroom available for visitors in the northwest part of the park.

Park History: How it Began

People first started asking for a park in the Bath Beach area way back in 1891. The very first part of the park, about 16 acres, was bought in 1895. More land was added later in 1924 and 1944, making the park even bigger.

In 2016, exciting news came out about a big update for Bensonhurst Park. A $6.5 million renovation project was announced! The work started in September 2019 to make the park even better for everyone.

Park Location and Size

Bensonhurst Park covers a large area. Its total size is about 0.789 square miles (or about 2 square kilometers). This includes a section south of the Belt Parkway. If you only look at the main part of the park without that southern section, it's still quite big, around 14 acres.

The park has several important streets and areas around it:

  • To the north, you'll find Cropsey Avenue.
  • The Belt Parkway runs through the middle of the park.
  • To the east, it borders Bay Parkway.
  • On the west side, it's next to 21st Avenue.

The park also sits right next to Gravesend Bay, offering nice views of the water.
