History of Bentley

Early Days

A post office was opened in Bentley on June 1, 1903. At that time, the area was known as Indian Territory. The community was named after Alva Bentley. He was an important educator in the territory during that period. When it was founded, Bentley was part of the Choctaw Nation.

Changes Over Time

Bentley once had its own school for local children. However, that school has since closed down. The post office in Bentley also closed its doors. It stopped operating on August 30, 1963.

Community Life

Today, Bentley has a few important places for its residents. On the main street, you can find the local fire department. There is also a community center. This center is a place where people can gather. A Southern Baptist Church is also located in Bentley.
