Cereus emoryi

The Bergerocactus emoryi is a special type of cactus. People often call it the golden cereus or golden snakecactus because of its look. It's the only plant in its group, called the genus Bergerocactus. This genus was named after a person named Alwin Berger. Sometimes, it's also known as the snake cactus, but another plant, Echinocereus pensilis, shares that name too.

About the Golden Cereus Cactus

This cactus usually grows in groups. It has many thin stems that can reach about 1 meter (3 feet) tall. Each stem is usually less than 5 centimeters (2 inches) wide. The stems have up to 20 ridges, which are like small bumps or ribs along their sides.

Flowers of the Golden Cereus

The flowers of the Bergerocactus emoryi are bright yellow. They grow near the top of the cactus stems. These flowers are shaped like a tunnel and can be about 2 centimeters (almost an inch) long and wide.

Where the Golden Cereus Lives

This unique cactus naturally grows in specific places. You can find it along the coast of southern California in the United States. It also lives in Baja California, which is in Mexico.
