Who is Bergis Jules?
Bergis Jules was born in Saint Lucia in 1981. He grew up to become an expert in archives and history. An archivist is someone who collects and preserves important historical documents and records.
His Work as an Archivist
Jules has worked at several universities. From 2014 to 2018, he was an archivist at the University of California, Riverside. Before that, he worked at George Washington University. He also helped with a project at the University of Chicago called the Black Metropolis Research Consortium.
Currently, he works for a group called Shift. This group creates tools to help solve social problems. He also leads a project called Documenting the Now, or DocNow.

How DocNow Started
The idea for DocNow came about in 2014. Bergis Jules and Edward Summers were at a conference. At the same time, there were big protests happening in Ferguson, Missouri. People were sharing a lot of information on Twitter about these events.
Summers quickly created a tool to save these tweets. This way, the information would not be lost. Meredith Evans also joined the project.

Bergis Jules has a strong educational background. He earned a degree in African-American and African Studies from Earlham College. He also has two master's degrees from Indiana University Bloomington. One is in African-American and African diaspora history. The other is in library and information science.
