One of the most exciting things about Bergton is its annual community fair. People from all around come to enjoy the fun!

History of Bergton

The Great Flood of 1936

In 1936, Bergton and a nearby place called Cootes Store faced a huge challenge. They were hit by a very big flood. This event is often called the Great Flood. The powerful floodwaters caused a lot of damage. Many barns, small houses, and other buildings were washed away.

How Bergton Got Its Name

Bergton wasn't always called Bergton. Its first name was Dovesville. This name came from the many families with the last name Dove who lived there. Later, the post office needed to change the name. This was to prevent confusion with another town named Covesville. That's how Dovesville became Bergton!

Bergton Elementary School

For many years, Bergton had its own elementary school. It was called Bergton Elementary School. However, in 1987, the school had to close. This happened because fewer and fewer students were attending.
