On February 24, 1943, he was ordained as a priest in San Antonio, Texas. This meant he could lead church services, perform sacraments, and guide his community.

Becoming a Bishop

After many years as a priest, Bernard Popp was chosen for an even bigger role. On June 3, 1983, he was appointed as an Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of San Antonio. An Auxiliary Bishop helps the main bishop manage a large area of churches. He was also given the title of Titular Bishop of Capsus, which is an honorary title. He officially became a bishop on July 25, 1983, in a special ceremony called a consecration.

Retirement and Later Years

Bishop Popp continued his important work in San Antonio for many years. He helped lead the Catholic community and supported its growth. He retired from his role as Auxiliary Bishop of San Antonio on March 23, 1993. He lived a long life, passing away on June 27, 2014, at the age of 96.
