Bernardino Licinio facts for kids
Bernardino Licinio (born around 1489 in Poscante – died around 1565) was an Italian Renaissance painter. He worked in Venice and the Lombardy region. He was known for painting many portraits and religious scenes.
About Bernardino Licinio
Bernardino Licinio was born around 1489 in Poscante, a town near Bergamo, Italy. He was the second of four sons. By 1511, he was already working as a painter, even though his father had passed away. Bernardino and his brother Arrigo moved to Venice. Many artists from Bergamo moved to Venice during that time.
We don't know the exact date Bernardino died. However, there are no records of him after 1550. So, people think he might have died around that time.
For a long time, people didn't know much about Bernardino's paintings. This was because a famous writer named Giorgio Vasari made a mistake. In his books, Vasari mixed up Bernardino Licinio with another painter named Il Pordenone. This made it hard to know which paintings were truly Bernardino's for over 300 years. In the early 1900s, an expert named Gustav Ludwig helped clear things up. He correctly identified Bernardino's works.
