The Besós power station is a large power plant in Sant Adrià de Besòs, a town near Barcelona, Spain. It's a special type of power plant called a combined cycle thermoelectric plant. This means it uses a very smart way to make electricity.
The plant has two main units. Each unit can produce 400 megawatts (MW) of power. This adds up to a total of 800 MW! It uses natural gas as its fuel. The Besós power station started making electricity in 2002. It is owned by two big energy companies, Gas Natural and Endesa, who share ownership equally.

What is a Combined Cycle Power Plant?
A combined cycle power plant is very efficient. It uses two types of turbines to make electricity. First, it burns natural gas in a gas turbine. This is like a jet engine. The hot gases from the burning fuel spin the turbine. This spinning creates electricity.
How Does it Work?
After the hot gases leave the gas turbine, they are still very hot. Instead of letting this heat go to waste, the plant captures it. The hot gases go into a special boiler. This boiler uses the heat to turn water into steam.
The steam then spins a second turbine, called a steam turbine. This steam turbine also creates electricity. By using both gas and steam turbines, the plant gets more electricity from the same amount of fuel. This makes it more environmentally friendly and saves energy.
Where is the Besós Power Station?
The power station is located in Sant Adrià de Besòs. This town is right next to the big city of Barcelona. Its location near the coast helps with cooling the plant. It also makes it easier to connect to the main electricity grid.
Who Owns and Operates It?
The Besós power station is a joint project. It is owned and operated by two major Spanish energy companies. These are Gas Natural and Endesa. They each own half of the power station. This partnership helps them share the costs and benefits of producing electricity.
