Best Mart 360 (Chinese: 優品360) is a popular chain of stores in Hong Kong. It is known for selling a wide variety of snacks and other food items. As of January 2019, the company had 103 stores. Most of these stores are in Hong Kong, with one store in Macau.
About Best Mart 360
Best Mart 360 started in 2013. Its very first store opened in Sheung Shui, a town in Hong Kong. At first, the company mainly aimed to sell products to tourists visiting Hong Kong. However, after 2016, fewer tourists came to Hong Kong. Because of this, Best Mart 360 began to focus more on local residents.
The company became a public company in January 2019. This means its shares can be bought and sold on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
Company Ownership
In June 2019, an organization called the Securities and Futures Commission looked into Best Mart 360's ownership. They found that a small number of people owned most of the company's shares. For example, by May 23, 2019, the top 20 shareholders owned almost 96% of all the company's shares. A company called Long Ease Holdings Limited owned 75% of these shares. This company is partly owned by Lin Tsz Fung.
The Commission warned people to be careful when buying or selling the company's shares. This is because when only a few people own most shares, the price can change a lot even if only a few shares are traded.
Challenges and Expansion
During the 2019–2020 Hong Kong protests, Best Mart 360 stores faced difficulties. Some stores were damaged because people believed the company had connections to groups that had conflicts with protesters.
In response to these challenges, Best Mart 360 decided to change its focus. The company planned to rely less on the Hong Kong market. Instead, it aimed to expand into the Mainland Chinese market. This included plans to open 15 to 20 stores in Macau within two years. The company stated it had no connection with the groups mentioned during the protests. Even though 72 of its 102 stores in Hong Kong were damaged, the company chose to keep them open.
The first Best Mart 360 store in Macau opened on December 17, 2019. The company also rented two more locations in Macau, which were planned to open later.
