A Look Back: Bettringen's History
How Bettringen Started
Bettringen is a very old village. It was founded, or started, in the year 1218. That means it is about 800 years old! In the 1400s, people started using two names for parts of the village: Oberbettringen (Upper Bettringen) and Unterbettringen (Lower Bettringen).
Joining and Becoming Independent
In 1464, Bettringen first became part of Schwäbisch Gmünd. This means it joined the bigger town. But later, it became independent again. This means it was on its own.
Growing Over Time
By 1870, more than 500 people lived in Bettringen. Some smaller villages nearby were also part of it. In 1959, Bettringen officially became part of Schwäbisch Gmünd again. This happened before bigger changes to the area in Baden-Württemberg.
