Bharat Raj Upreti (born July 8, 1950 – died May 24, 2015) was an important judge in Nepal. He worked at the highest court, the Supreme Court of Nepal. He was also a very experienced lawyer.
Becoming a Judge and Lawyer
Bharat Raj Upreti studied at Tribhuwan University in Nepal. He earned degrees in business and law there. Later, in 1980, he got a special law degree (Master of Law) from a university in India. In 1977, he became a lawyer, allowed to argue cases at the Supreme Court of Nepal.
Teaching Law
Mr. Upreti also loved teaching. For 21 years, he taught law at Tribhuwan University. He taught about business laws and the laws that set up the government. He stopped teaching there in 1995 as an associate professor. He also taught for a while at Kathmandu University.
Working at the Supreme Court
In 2008, the Supreme Court gave him the special title of 'senior advocate'. This means he was a highly respected and experienced lawyer. On January 22, 2009, he was chosen to be a temporary judge at the Supreme Court.
