Margaretha Anna (Bibi) Dumon Tak (born December 21, 1964) is a famous Dutch writer. She creates wonderful books especially for children. After finishing her studies in Dutch Literature, Bibi Dumon Tak started her writing journey in 2001. Her first book for kids was Het koeienboek (The Cow Book). It was a non-fiction book, meaning it was full of real facts!
Bibi's Writing Journey
Bibi Dumon Tak's first book, Het koeienboek, came out in 2002. It was a big hit! She even won the Zilveren Griffel award for it. This award is a special prize for the best children's books in the Netherlands. She won the Zilveren Griffel many more times. She won it in 2004 for Camera loopt... Actie!. In 2007, she won for Bibi’s bijzondere beestenboek. Then again in 2010 for Fiet wil rennen.
Her book Camera loopt... Actie! is super interesting. It takes you behind the scenes of the 2003 movie Polleke. This movie was based on other popular children's books.
In 2006, Bibi wrote a book called Laika tussen de sterren. This book was chosen as the special gift for the annual Boekenweek. It tells the true story of Laika, the first animal to travel into space. In 2012, she won the top award, the Gouden Griffel, for her book Winterdieren.
Some of Bibi's books have been translated into English. A translator named Laura Watkinson helped with this. Her publisher even won an award in America for the English versions. They won for Soldier Bear in 2012. Then again in 2015 for Mikis and the Donkey.
In 2018, Bibi Dumon Tak received a very important award. It was the Theo Thijssen-prijs. This prize is given for all the amazing books a writer has created throughout their career.
In 2019, her book Laat een boodschap achter in het zand was nominated for a big nature book prize. This book had beautiful pictures by Annemarie van Haeringen.
Most recently, in 2023, Bibi and Annemarie van Haeringen won another award. They won the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs for their book. It was called Vandaag houd ik mijn spreekbeurt over de anaconda.
Many talented artists have drawn pictures for Bibi's books. Some of these illustrators include Fleur van der Weel and Fiep Westendorp. Her books are published by Querido.
