Jan Paul Schutten (born November 30, 1970) is a super talented Dutch writer. He writes amazing books especially for children and young people. His books often explain tricky science topics in a fun and easy-to-understand way.

Jan Paul Schutten's Books and Career

Jan Paul Schutten started his writing journey with a book called Ruik eens wat ik zeg, de taal van dieren en planten. This translates to "Smell What I Say, The Language of Animals and Plants." It was a big hit and won the Vlag en Wimpel award in 2004. This award is given to really good children's books. The cool pictures in the book were made by Sieb Postuma.

In 2008, Jan Paul won the famous Gouden Griffel award. This is one of the most important awards for children's books in the Netherlands. He won it for his book Kinderen van Amsterdam ("Children of Amsterdam"). Paul Teng drew the pictures for this book.

The next year, he wrote De wraak van het spruitje ("The Revenge of the Brussels Sprout"). This book was a special gift for the annual Boekenweek, which is a big celebration of books in the Netherlands.

Het raadsel van alles wat leeft

One of his most famous books is Het raadsel van alles wat leeft ("The Mystery of Everything That Lives"). This book helped him win the Nienke van Hichtum-prijs in 2013. He also won his second Gouden Griffel award for this same book in 2014!

The amazing illustrations for Het raadsel van alles wat leeft were created by Floor Rieder. She even won the Gouden Penseel award for her pictures in 2014. This was her very first time illustrating a children's book, which is super impressive!

Jan Paul Schutten also won another Vlag en Wimpel award in 2012. This was for his book Groeten uit 2030! ("Greetings from 2030!").

Jan Paul Schutten is married to Bibi Dumon Tak. She is also a very well-known and award-winning writer of children's books in the Netherlands. It must be fun to have two amazing writers in one family!
