Bibi Ferreira's Early Life
Bibi Ferreira was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her father, Procópio Ferreira, was a stage actor. Her mother, Aida Izquierdo, was a dancer from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Bibi's grandparents on her father's side came from Madeira Island, Portugal. Her grandparents on her mother's side were from Spain. Bibi learned how to dance at the Teatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro.
Bibi Ferreira's Amazing Career
Bibi's father invited her to join his acting company. She made her very first stage appearance on February 28, 1941. This was in a play called La Locandiera at Teatro Serrador in Rio de Janeiro. Just three years later, she started her own theater company.
During this time, Bibi also hosted many TV talk and variety shows. She used these shows to help new artists and writers. She gave them a chance to show their work to the public.
Famous Roles and Directing
In 1962, Bibi starred in the Brazilian version of My Fair Lady. This show was a huge hit and ran for two and a half years! That was a record for Brazil. After that, she played the main roles in other famous musicals. These included Hello Dolly and Man of La Mancha.
In the 1970s, Bibi started directing her own shows. She began performing in a musical about the famous singer Édith Piaf in 1983. She even took this show on tour all over Europe.
Impact and Recognition
Bibi Ferreira was a very important person in Brazil's entertainment world. The singer Maria Bethânia, who Bibi helped, once said that Bibi helped Brazil find its own identity. In 1985, the French Government gave her a special award called the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. This award honors people who have done great things in art and literature.
In 2016, Bibi performed a special one-woman show. It was called "Bibi Times Four" and took place at Symphony Space in New York City.

In 1968, Bibi Ferreira married Paulo Pontes, who was a playwright. In 1970, she performed in a play called Gota D'Agua, which Paulo wrote. Sadly, Paulo passed away in 1976. Bibi Ferreira died in Rio de Janeiro on February 13, 2019. She passed away from a cardiac arrest, which is a sudden heart problem.
