Bidwell is a small, quiet place in the northern part of Laclede County, in the southern part of Missouri. It's called an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town does. Instead, it's governed by the county. Bidwell is nestled in the beautiful Ozarks region. You can find it just west of Missouri Route 5, about 2.5 miles south of Decaturville.
History of Bidwell
Bidwell has an interesting history with a name change! At first, this community was known as Partlow. It was named after J. W. Partlow, who helped build railroads in the area.
A post office, which is where mail is sent and received, was opened in Partlow in 1886. However, the name of the post office was changed to Bidwell in 1895. The name "Bidwell" came from the maiden name of an early postmaster's wife. The post office eventually closed its doors in 1915.
