Big Stone, Alberta facts for kids
Big Stone is a small community in southern Alberta, Canada. It's not a city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Special Area No. 3.
You can find Big Stone about 28 kilometers (17 miles) south of Highway 9. It's also about 142 kilometers (88 miles) northwest of Medicine Hat, a bigger city nearby.
What's in a Name?
Big Stone got its name from a stream nearby. This stream is called Bigstone Creek.

Big Stone has a special kind of weather called a semi-arid climate. This means it's usually quite dry.
- Winters are long, cold, and don't get much snow or rain.
- Summers are short and warm.
- Most of the rain and snow that falls happens during the warmer months.
