Big Trees Village is a special community in Calaveras County, California. It sits high up in the mountains, about 5,164 feet (1,574 meters) above sea level.
This community has about 2,000 properties, most with a good-sized yard. A group called the Big Trees Village Property Owners Association (BTVPOA) helps manage the area. Big Trees Village completely surrounds a smaller neighborhood called Snowshoe Springs. Snowshoe Springs has its own separate group managing its homes.
People living in Big Trees Village get their mail from nearby towns. These towns include Camp Connell and Dorrington. The zip code for this area is 95223. This zip code is shared with other places like Arnold and Bear Valley. Mail is not delivered directly to individual homes here.

Weather in Big Trees Village
The weather in the Big Trees Village area is usually very nice. Summers are mild and winters are gentle. This means there are many sunny days for playing outside.
Summer temperatures rarely go above the mid-90s Fahrenheit. These cooler temperatures often attract visitors. Many people come from the hot Central Valley of California.
Winters usually bring snow. Sometimes the snow can be quite deep. The temperatures are often around freezing or a bit warmer. This makes it perfect for snow activities. You can go skiing, sledding, build snowmen, or have snowball fights!
History of the Community
The development of Big Trees Village began in the 1960s. In 1966, the Calaveras Development Company started planning the first sections. Then, in 1968, American Forest Properties continued the development.
Later, in 1979, the Deerwood Corporation developed more sections. The Deerwood Corporation still owns some property in Big Trees Village today.
The Recreation Center's Story
The community's Recreation Center was built by American Forest Properties. It was first made for their employees in 1969-1970. In 1974, the company gave the Recreation Center and 11 acres of land to the Big Trees Village Property Owners’ Association.
This Association was formed in 1974 to take care of the common areas. In 1998, the Association sold 11 acres of land. This helped them save money for future needs. The Recreation Center is now located on 17 acres of land. It is at the corner of Boards Crossing and Sierra Parkway.
About 2.5 acres of land near the center was also given to the Association in 1998. This land came from the Ebbetts Pass Fire District. The Association cannot sell this specific property. If the Association ever stops existing, this land will go back to the Fire District.
Fun at the Recreation Center
The Recreation Center has many cool things to do! It has two swimming pools for splashing around. There are also two tennis courts for playing games. You can find two shuffleboard decks and two horseshoe pits.
For sports, there is a sand volleyball court and a basketball court. There is also a general volleyball area. Kids can enjoy a children’s playground and a large picnic area. There is even a full-size athletic field. Recently, an 18-hole Frisbee Golf Course was added for more fun.
The center has four buildings and two paved parking lots. There are also paved walkways and driveways. The swimming pools are completely fenced for safety. The main buildings and the pool area have alarms.
Using the Center
This facility needs care all year long. It is open to property owners from Memorial Day to Labor Day. This is usually from late May to early September.
Joining the Association is not required. However, there is a separate fee to use the swimming pools. The Association membership fees help pay for keeping the 17 acres and all its features in good shape. The pool fees help pay for staff wages and pool upkeep. Membership runs from May 1st to April 30th each year.
The Property Owners’ Association
The Big Trees Village Property Owners’ Association is a non-profit group in California. It is special because joining is not required for property owners.
The Association has rules that guide how it works. These include its Articles of Corporation, By-Laws, and Design and Use Guidelines. The Association also has a General Manager who works there all year.
