Bikash Roy (born May 16, 1916 – died April 16, 1987) was a famous Indian actor and filmmaker. He is best known for his work in Bengali cinema, which means movies made in the Bengali language. Bikash Roy was especially good at playing different kinds of characters, and he had a unique acting style. He was active in films from the late 1940s to the mid-1980s.

Early Life and Education
Bikash Roy was born in Kolkata, India. His family came from a place called Madanpur in the Nadia district of West Bengal. He grew up in a wealthy family, which meant he had a good education. He went to Mitra Institution for his early studies. Later, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Calcutta (Presidency College). He also studied law at the same university.
Career
Acting in Films
Bikash Roy acted in many films. Some of his well-known movies include Ratnadeep, '42, Uttar Falguni, Surya Toran, Neel Akasher Neechey, and Ogo Bodhu Shundori.
In the early 1950s, he played Kamal, the main character in the romantic comedy Chheley Kaar. Later in his career, he also played a funny grandfather in the 1980 comedy Ogo Bodhu Shundori. One of his most famous roles was the selfless lawyer Manish in Uttar Falguni.
Bikash Roy was known for his amazing acting skills. He played a ruthless military officer in the film '42. He showed his talent in many different roles. For example, he played an imposter who changes for the better in Ratnadeep. He was a rich businessman in Surya Toran and a caring brother in Dhuli. He also played a quiet husband in Smriti Tuku Thak and a quarrelsome husband in Jatugriha. He even played police officers and doctors.
One of his best roles was a small but important part in Arogya Niketan. He played Moshay, an old village doctor who believed in traditional medicine but was also open to modern treatments. For this role, he won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bengali.
Acting in Theatrical Plays
Bikash Roy also acted in many stage plays. One of his most famous plays was Nahabat, which ran for over 1,200 nights! He also started a new type of stage play called "Shruti Natok" (audio drama). In these plays, actors would read their parts in front of the audience. Two popular "Shruti Natok" performances were Shesher Kobita and Chirakumar Sabha, both based on works by Rabindranath Tagore. He also performed in radio plays for Akashvani.
Directing Films
Bikash Roy loved movies so much that he also produced and directed several films. Some of the films he directed include Marutirtha Hinglaj, Raja Saja, and Carey Saheber Munshi. He also directed Debotar Graash, which was based on a poem by Rabindranath Tagore.
Autobiography
Bikash Roy continued to work in films until the 1980s, often taking smaller roles as his health declined. He wrote a few books about his life and experiences. Some of his autobiographical titles are Mone Pore, Kichhu Chhabi, Kichhu Galpo, Prasanga Abhinoy, and Aami.
