William Pullman (born December 17, 1953) is a well-known American actor. He has starred in many popular movies and TV shows. Before becoming an actor, he taught theater at a university. Pullman is famous for his roles in films like Independence Day, where he played the President, and Spaceballs, a funny sci-fi movie. He has also appeared in TV series such as The Sinner.

Early Life and Schooling
Bill Pullman was born on December 17, 1953, in Hornell, New York. After finishing high school in 1971, he went to college at the State University of New York at Delhi and the State University of New York at Oneonta. He earned a degree in Theater Studies in 1975. Later, he received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1980. He even taught theater at SUNY Delhi and Montana State University. His students encouraged him to try acting in movies.
Acting Career Highlights
During the 1980s, Bill Pullman mostly worked with theater groups in New York and Los Angeles. His first big movie role was in Ruthless People (1986). He then starred as Lone Starr in the comedy Spaceballs (1987).
Pullman appeared in many other notable films. These include A League of Their Own (1992), Sleepless in Seattle (1993), and While You Were Sleeping (1995). He also played Dr. James Harvey in the family movie Casper (1995).
In 1996, he took on the role of the President of the United States in the science fiction film Independence Day. He also lent his voice to Captain Joseph Korso in the animated film Titan A.E. (2000).
Pullman has also been very active in television. He starred in the miniseries Torchwood (2011) and played the president in the TV comedy 1600 Penn (2012–13). From 2017 to 2021, he was the main character, Detective Harry Ambrose, in the mystery series The Sinner. In 2023, he played a lawyer in the TV movie Murdaugh Murders: The Movie.
On Stage
Bill Pullman has a long history of acting in plays. He has performed on Broadway several times. From 2002 to 2002, he starred in Edward Albee's play The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?. This play won a Tony Award for Best Play. He was also nominated for an award for his acting in it.
He also wrote his own play called Expedition 6. It was about a mission to the International Space Station. The play opened in San Francisco in 2007.
Personal Life
Bill Pullman is married to Tamara Hurwitz, who is a modern dancer. They have three children: Lewis, Maesa, and Jack. Lewis Pullman is also an actor.
Bill Pullman is a big fan of the Buffalo Bills football team. He also co-owns a cattle ranch in Montana with his brother. He lives there part-time. He is involved with Alfred University and Montana State University, where he has received honorary doctorates.
