Billie Dean Letts (born Gipson; May 30, 1938 – August 2, 2014) was a talented American novelist and a dedicated educator. She taught as a professor at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Billie Letts was best known for her heartwarming stories that often explored themes of family and finding your place in the world.

Billie Dean Gipson was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her mother, Virginia M. Barnes, worked as a secretary, and her father was William C. Gipson.
In 1958, Billie married Dennis Letts. He was also a professor and an actor. They had three children together: Dana, Tracy, and Shawn. Tracy became a famous playwright, and Shawn is a jazz musician and composer. Dennis Letts helped his wife by editing her novels. He passed away in 2008.
Billie Letts died in a Tulsa hospital in 2014 at the age of 76. She had recently been diagnosed with leukemia and passed away from pneumonia.
