Early Life
Billie grew up on a dairy farm in a place called Bowraville, New South Wales, Australia. She went to Macksville High School. Before she became a TV cooking star, Billie worked as a manager at a restaurant in Ballina, New South Wales.
MasterChef Australia Success
First Win (2015)
Billie McKay became very famous after winning the seventh season of MasterChef Australia in 2015. This was a huge achievement! As the winner, she received some amazing prizes:
- $250,000 in prize money.
- A brand new Alfa Romeo car.
- A chance to write a monthly cooking column for Delicious., a popular Australian food magazine.
After her big win, a special guest judge named Heston Blumenthal offered Billie a job. Heston is a world-famous chef. He invited her to work at his very famous restaurant, The Fat Duck. Billie accepted this exciting offer!
Returning as a Mentor (2019)
In 2019, Billie returned to the MasterChef Australia kitchen. This time, she wasn't competing. Instead, she came back as a mentor. A mentor is someone who helps and guides others. She shared this role with other past contestants, like Matt Sinclair and Poh Ling Yeow. They helped the new chefs learn and improve their cooking skills.
Second Win (2022)
Billie McKay made a big comeback in 2022. She decided to compete again on MasterChef Australia for its fourteenth season. This season was special because it had a mix of past contestants and new chefs. Billie showed off her amazing cooking skills once more. She made it all the way to the Grand Finale. In the final cook-off, she beat another talented chef, Sarah Todd. This made Billie the first person ever to win MasterChef Australia two times!
