Billings Studio Theater facts for kids
Billings Studio Theatre is a special community theatre company in Billings, Montana. It's a not-for-profit group, which means it uses any money it earns to help the theatre grow and put on more shows, instead of making a profit for owners. You can find it at 1500 Rimrock Road.
The theatre company started a long time ago, in 1953. Their very first show was called There's Always Juliet. For a while, they didn't have their own building. In 1963, they found a home in a church in downtown Billings. But five years later, the church building was no longer safe to use. So, the theatre group worked hard to build a brand new home. In 1971, Billings Studio Theatre opened its doors to a new, modern theatre. This new building is in the central part of Billings, right next to the Rocky Mountain College campus. It's important to know that Billings Studio Theatre is its own separate organization and is not run by the college.
What Shows Do They Put On?
Each year, Billings Studio Theatre puts on many exciting shows! They usually produce four plays and four musicals. They also have a special show just for kids, which is for certain age groups. Some of the popular shows they've performed recently include The Descendants, Beauty and the Beast, Frozen, ELF, Shrek, and Murder on the Orient Express.
In 2013, Billings Studio Theatre made history! They were the very first community theatre in Montana to perform the full version of the famous musical Les Misérables. This was a big achievement for them.
How People Help the Theatre
Many people help make the theatre a success. About 500 volunteers give their time each year to help with everything from building sets to selling tickets. Billings Studio Theatre puts on 8 main stage shows every year. They also host one or two shows from Rocky Mountain College students.
The theatre also has a special program just for younger actors called "The Growing Stage." This is their children's theatre, where kids can learn about acting and perform in their own shows.
