Billy the Cat is a fun animated series that came from a comic strip by Stéphane Colman and Stephen Desberg. It was on TV from 1996 to 2001, with two seasons and later two movies. The show was made by EVA Entertainment and other companies like Les Films du Triangle and Dupuis.

The Story of Billy the Cat

The show is about a boy named Billy who gets turned into a cat! A grumpy magician does this to teach Billy a lesson because he saw Billy being mean to a cat. To make sure Billy's family doesn't worry, the magician also uses his magic. He turns his own cat, Dandelion, into a human boy who looks just like Billy. So, Dandelion lives with Billy's family. Even though Billy often asked, he never turned back into a human boy during the series.

Meet the Characters

Here are some of the main characters you'll meet in Billy the Cat:

  • Billy Colas (voiced by Jesse Moss in season 1, and by Brian Drummond in season 2) − He's the main character, a young boy who suddenly becomes a cat. He has to learn how to live life as a feline on the streets.
  • Mr. Hubert (voiced by Michael Donovan) − A wise white cat with a bowtie. He becomes Billy's guide and teaches him how to survive in the city as a cat. He lives in an old Cadillac in a junk yard and speaks with a British accent.
  • Queenie (voiced by Kelly Sheridan) − A friendly female cat who becomes Billy's friend and helps him out. She seems to really like Billy.
  • Jumbo (voiced by Ian James Corlett) − A pigeon who acts and talks like an airplane pilot. He's a funny and helpful friend to Billy and the others.
  • Sanctifur (voiced by Robert O. Smith) − A tough, dark gray cat with a scar. He's one of the main bad guys and often causes trouble for Billy, Queenie, and Mr. Hubert.
  • Moonie (voiced by Terry Klassen) − A Wire Fox Terrier and the leader of a group of mean dogs called the Dead End Dogs. He loves to pick on cats and is another big enemy for Billy and his friends.
  • Ali Kazam The Magician (voiced by Michael Donovan) − He's the one who turned Billy into a cat. After teaching Billy a lesson, he made his own cat, Dandelion, look like human Billy.
  • Nick (voiced by Lee Tockar in season 1, and by Bill Switzer in season 2) − One of Billy's old human friends. He doesn't like cats, which is ironic since his friend is now one!
  • Billy's Mother (voiced by Kathleen Barr) − Billy's mom, who is worried about him. She's also allergic to cats, which makes the situation even trickier for Billy.
