Birgit Tengroth (born July 13, 1915 – died September 21, 1983) was a famous Swedish film actress. She appeared in more than 40 movies during her career, from 1926 to 1950.

Birgit Tengroth's Early Life and Acting Career

Birgit Tengroth started performing very young. When she was just 10 years old, she appeared on a radio show called 'Barnens Brevlåda' with her friend Sickan Carlsson. She also studied ballet at the Royal Opera's ballet school from 1926 to 1931.

Her first movie role was a small part in a film called Mordbrännerskan in 1926. In 1932, she signed a contract with Svensk Filmindustri (SF), which was a very big movie studio in Sweden. She worked there for many years. Birgit was known for playing friendly, relatable characters, often called "girl next door" roles. This made her very popular with young fans. Some people even compared her to another famous actress, Ingrid Bergman, when Ingrid first started acting.

Moving On from Movies

In the 1940s, Birgit left Svensk Filmindustri and worked with different movie companies. After she stopped acting in movies in 1950, she started a new career as an author and journalist.

She was briefly married to Jens Otto Krag, a Danish politician. He later became the Prime Minister of Denmark. In some of her later writings, Birgit shared her thoughts and experiences about the Swedish film industry during the time she was a big star. Birgit Tengroth passed away in 1983.
