Birgitte Federspiel (born September 6, 1925 – died February 2, 2005) was a talented Danish actress. She was famous for her work in movies, on stage, and on TV. Birgitte won two important awards called the Bodil Awards for being the best actress. She won in 1955 for the film Ordet and again in 1959 for En fremmed banker på.

Birgitte was born Karen Birgitte Federspiel in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her father, Ejner Federspiel, was also an actor, and her mother was Gunver Fönss.

Her Acting Career

Birgitte Federspiel played many memorable characters. One of her most famous movie roles was Inger in the 1955 film Ordet. Later in her career, she also starred as Martine in the movie Babette's Feast (1987), which became very well-known. On television, she was seen as Baroness von Rydtger in a few episodes of the popular Danish TV series Matador.

Birgitte Federspiel was married to two other Danish actors during her life: Freddy Koch and Jens Østerholm.
