It is also a place of worship for a group of Anglican nuns called the Sisters of the Communities of St John Baptist and the Good Shepherd.
Who Was Edward King?
The chapel is named after a very important person, Edward King. He was the leader, or Principal, of Cuddesdon Theological College from 1863 to 1873. Later, he became a Bishop in Lincoln, serving from 1885 to 1910. The chapel honors his memory and his work.
A Special Design
The design of the Edward King Chapel is quite unique! There was an architectural design competition to choose the best design. A company called Niall McLaughlin Architects won this competition. They created an oval-shaped building that stands out.
This design was so good that it was almost chosen for a very famous award called the Stirling Prize in 2013. It was also recognized by the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture. This shows how special and well-designed the chapel is.
