The Bistline Covered Bridge, also called Flickinger's Mill Covered Bridge, is a special old wooden bridge. It has a roof and sides, just like a house! You can find it in Southwest Madison Township, near Blain, in Perry County, Pennsylvania.

This amazing bridge was built around 1871, which makes it over 150 years old! It stretches 96-foot-long (29 m) across Sherman Creek.

What Makes the Bistline Covered Bridge Special?

The Bistline Covered Bridge is a great example of old-time engineering. It's made of wood and uses a special design called a Burr Truss. This design helps make the bridge super strong.

Why Do Bridges Have Roofs?

You might wonder why some bridges have roofs. The roof and sides on a covered bridge are like a protective shield. They keep the wooden parts of the bridge safe from rain, snow, and sun. This helps the bridge last much, much longer. Without the cover, the wood would rot and wear out quickly.

A Piece of History

Because of its age and unique design, the Bistline Covered Bridge is considered very important. In 1980, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a special list of buildings, sites, and objects that are important in American history. Being on this list helps protect the bridge for future generations to enjoy.
