Baya Bouzar (born September 13, 1952, and passed away on November 25, 2025), was a famous Algerian artist. Many people knew her by her stage name, Biyouna. She was a talented singer, dancer, and actress who brought joy to many through her performances.

Who Was Biyouna?
Her Early Life and Musical Start
Biyouna loved singing from a very young age. She joined several music groups. First, she played the tambourine in Fadhéla Dziria's group. Later, she led her own group with her friend Flifla.
Eventually, she formed her own band where she was the main singer. Her group became very popular for performing at wedding parties. When she was 17, Biyouna started performing in big music venues. By the age of 19, she was dancing at a famous place called the Copacabana.
Becoming a Star: Biyouna's Acting Journey
Biyouna's acting career began when she was still young. A director named Mustapha Badie gave her a singing role in his first TV show, La Grande Maison, in 1973. She played a character named Fatma. This show was based on a book by Mohamed Dib, and it made Biyouna very famous.
She also acted in Algerian movies, like Leila and the others in 1978 and The Neighbor in 2000. Biyouna even had her own one-woman shows, where she performed by herself.
In 1999, director Nadir Moknèche cast her in the film Madame Osmane's Harem, where she played Meriem. She worked with him again in the movie Viva Laldjéri in 2003.
From 2002 to 2005, Biyouna became very popular for a series of three TV shows about Ramadan, called Nass Mlah City. She also played the main character, Madame Aldjeria, in Nadir Moknèche's film Délice Paloma. In 2006, she performed in an opera called Elektra alongside the famous actress Jane Birkin. Biyouna also had a role in the Algerian film Rendez-vous avec le destin in 2007.
In 2009, she acted in a play called La Celestina in Paris. During Ramadan in 2010, Biyouna was a main star in a TV comedy show called Nsibti Laaziza, shown on Nessma TV.
Biyouna's Singing Career and Albums
While acting, Biyouna also kept her singing career going strong. In 2001, she released an album called Raid Zone, which she created with composer John Bagnolett. This album was very successful.
After that, and after performing in a show called Opéra de Casbah, she released another album named Blonde dans la casbah. Biyouna spent a lot of time making this album special. She chose songs that mixed French and Algerian styles, showing off both cultures.
Biyouna lived in a suburb of Algiers with her husband and their four children.
